From No Web Presence To A Platform Built To Sell Marine Innovation.

Hatch helped a West Cork marine-technology startup turn a complex engineering offer into a clear, product-led website—then kept developing the platform as the business and its ambitions grew.

The brief

Give An Innovative Manufacturer A Digital Presence As Credible As The Engineering Behind It.

Teal had a novel approach to manufacturing rugged HDPE boats, hulls and marine systems, but no website through which prospective customers or partners could understand the offer. The brief was to establish that presence, make a technically complex business easier to evaluate and build a platform that could expand with the company.

Teal Tech · Web design & development

A technical startup needed a credible route into the market

Teal Marine Technologies is an independent marine-technology company based in West Cork. Its team designs and manufactures rugged HDPE hulls, autonomous marine systems and custom components in-house, combining boatbuilding with CAD, CNC machining, prototyping, welding and systems integration.

That is a compelling offer once it is understood. The difficulty was giving prospective customers and partners a place to understand it.

When CEO Dannel Basic approached Hatch, Teal had no web presence. For a young manufacturer selling specialist, often custom-built products, that was more than a marketing gap. People encountering the company through a conversation, referral or industry connection had no credible destination where they could assess the technology, see the work or understand what a project with Teal might involve.

Our first job was to change that. We worked with Dannel to design and develop a website that felt consistent with Teal’s existing brand while giving the company a clear commercial presence of its own.

The challenge was clarity as much as visibility

Teal is not selling a familiar, one-size-fits-all product. Its work ranges from off-the-shelf hulls to fully integrated vessels, autonomous platforms, custom HDPE fabrication, engineering support and rapid prototypes.

The potential customers are just as varied. A marine researcher may be assessing a platform for coastal monitoring. An aquaculture operator may need safer inspection around fish cages or long lines. Another engineering team may arrive with a drawing, an early-stage idea or a problem that requires a completely custom build.

A conventional brochure website would not have been enough. The site needed to make an unfamiliar material and a technically broad capability feel understandable without flattening what made Teal different. It also needed to give visitors a useful next step even when they did not yet know the exact product or specification they needed.

That led to a simple principle for the project: organise the website around the way a customer approaches Teal, not around an internal list of equipment or capabilities.

Three clear routes into one specialist business

We developed the experience around three commercial routes: proven products, specialist services and custom projects.

Someone who already knows the type of hull or platform they need can move into the product catalogue, review a product in detail and enquire about a specific configuration. A visitor who needs a capability—such as CAD support, CNC cutting, HDPE fabrication or a prototype—can start with the relevant service. A team with a less conventional brief can see that custom development is not an exception; it is a core part of how Teal works.

The architecture does a quiet but important job. It makes Teal easier to assess for a person arriving from outside the company while preserving a direct path to Dannel and the team when the requirement calls for a conversation.

Showing the product in the context of the mission

For specialist engineering products, the specification is only part of the sale. Prospective buyers also need to recognise their own operating environment and understand why the product is suited to it.

The website therefore uses Teal’s strongest visual asset—the boats and systems themselves—as evidence. Large-format photography gives the work space to feel tangible, while the surrounding content connects each platform to practical applications in marine research, aquaculture, near-shore monitoring and offshore renewables.

The product experience takes that further. A visitor can move from a visual introduction to variants, technical details, use cases and supporting downloads, then discuss a build with specific requirements. That structure supports both sides of the buying decision: enough information for a technical reader to evaluate the opportunity and a clear route to Teal when the final answer depends on the mission.

This matters for a company working with HDPE. Many buyers are more familiar with aluminium, fibreglass or conventional boatbuilding. The service content explains the practical reasons Teal works with marine-grade HDPE—durability, resistance to harsh marine conditions, low maintenance and recyclability—without requiring the visitor to arrive with specialist material knowledge.

A website designed to evolve with the manufacturer

The initial launch established Teal online, but it was not the end of the work. Over the following 18 months, we continued working with Dannel as the offer matured.

That has included redesigning and expanding pages, adding features, strengthening the way services and technology are explained, and developing the shop and product journey so customers can explore configurations or start a custom-order conversation. We also put the essential search foundations in place so the site could be indexed and its core pages discovered.

Search work was deliberately focused on the essentials rather than a long-term SEO campaign. The more important outcome was that Teal did not outgrow its first website. The platform could absorb a broader service offer, more detailed product information and new ways for a prospect to engage without requiring the company to start again.

For a startup manufacturer, that adaptability has commercial value. The website can keep pace as a prototype becomes a product, a one-off capability becomes a service, or a conversation with a partner turns into a new market opportunity.

The outcome: a commercial platform where there had been none

The change is fundamental: Teal moved from having no web presence to having a clear, visual and technically useful platform through which prospective customers and partners can:

  • understand what the company builds and why HDPE suits demanding marine work;
  • see products and systems operating in relevant real-world settings;
  • evaluate services, use cases, specifications and supporting information;
  • identify whether an existing platform fits their mission; and
  • start a focused conversation about a custom project or configuration.

The website also gives the Teal team an asset it can use beyond search: a credible destination for introductions, referrals, partnership conversations and direct outreach. Instead of repeatedly explaining the whole business from a blank page, the team can send a prospect into the part of the experience that best matches the opportunity.

Dannel’s public review captures the delivery experience just as clearly. He describes efficient communication, a fast build and a launch without issues, and says he would highly recommend working with Hatch. His video testimonial on our reviews page adds the client’s voice to a partnership that has continued well beyond the original launch.

What comes next

Teal continues to work with Hatch whenever our services are needed, while handling straightforward content and product updates internally. Like every Hatch website, the platform was built to be easy for the client to manage, keeping control with Teal and ongoing costs down.

The story is one of foundation and momentum. An innovative West Cork manufacturer has a digital presence that makes its work easier to see, understand and buy—and a website that can continue changing as the engineering does.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What did Hatch deliver for Teal Marine Technologies?

Hatch designed and developed Teal's first website around its existing brand, then continued to expand the platform with new pages, refreshed designs, product content, custom-order journeys and essential technical SEO foundations.

How does the website explain Teal's technical offer?

The site separates products, engineering and manufacturing services, and custom projects, then supports those routes with marine use cases, specifications, photography and clear ways to start a conversation.

Did Hatch deliver an ongoing SEO campaign for Teal?

No. Hatch established the website's technical and on-page search foundations and ensured the content could be indexed, but this case study does not claim results from a long-term SEO engagement.

Ben did an amazing job programming my website! His communication was efficient and quick, and the project was completed in record time. The site went live without any issues. Highly recommend working with Hatch Digital!
